  • Agriculture in the desert! The tomatoes looked quite delicious!
  • Rooms carved into the wall everywhere! Here's a regular street with neighbors...
  • A slightly less spartan interior that I came across - apparently used to be a dining hall.
  • Some vegetation for the horses along the way...
  • One of the garden tombs - long since neglected....
  • The Monastery building - still in quite a good shape unlike most other eroded buildings
  • A look at the Royal tombs carved into the canyon walls, as seen from the temple coutyard
  • Sunrise over Wadi Musa town
  • Agriculture in the desert!
  • Dead Sea coast - exposing the lovely water colors. The Wadi Mujib Biosphere has a good bit of greenery - in stark contrast to the rest of the desert coast.
  • Dead Sea coast - exposing the lovely water colors. The hills on the opposite coast correspond to Israel.
  • At night, the entire Siq and the Al Khazneh are lit up with candles - making for a surreal setting! The moonlight casts a wonderful light on the canyon wall - showing off the beautiful Rose Red facade.
  • Two guards dressed in Roman Soldier garb, complete the picture at Al Khazneh - the Treasury building.
  • A singing camel in front of Al Khazneh - the Treasury building in Petra.
  • Siq - the 2+ km long canyon that leads into the ancient town of Petra
  • The room at Petra was much more basic, but fresh fruits were delivered daily!
  • The Dead Sea coast inside Jordan is stony for the most part, with the few existing resorts all clustered around the tiny beaches available.
  • Sun punctures the stormy weather over Dead Sea. I actually experienced severe rain for a few minutes while driving in the desert!
  • Salty!
  • The room was quite tastefully appointed.
  • Apart from the huge pool that is common to all the buildings, each building has it's own smaller pool too!
  • Dead Sea beach at night. The lights on the opposite shore correspond to Palestine.
  • The largest swimming pool in the Crowne Plaza Resort at Dead Sea, Jordan, has 2 bars, and a spa in the middle. This is one of the bridges leading to the island in the middle.

The floodlight that they turned on the Treasury building unfortunately casts it in an ugly yellow light instead of the original Rose Red color.
  • A Bedouin lady smoking a hookah. The pink color on her lap is a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 smartphone. She took all my bollywood songs through bluetooth :)

As an aside, through my entire stay there, I did not meet a single Jordanian who didn't smoke.
  • The first view of the Al Khazneh - the Treasury Building, through the Siq - the canyon.
  • The trail up top is not for the faint of heart, and my Vertigo was kicking in fairly often!
  • Unlike the rest of the desert canyon, the way to the top of the treasury building was through some thick bushes!
  • Looking down the Al Khazeh - the Treasure Building, from the other side.
  • Bedouin tribe kids going through the canyons on a mule
  • The Monastery building - still in quite a good shape unlike most other eroded buildings
  • A sacrificial place at the temple. Circular seating, with a grill in the center to drain the blood after the sacrifice! Say what you will about their customs, but the whole place is quite well engineered!
  • Although the camels walked gracefully, they are not well treated by the tribes. A look at the knees of the lead camel might paint you the story :(
  • The scale is quite enormous with people for ants.
  • A top level view of the stadium and it's surroundings. Fairly well engineered - with separate entrances for the two contesting gladiators...
  • Your truly conquers vertigo for a selfie on top of the wall face opposite the treasury building.
  • A rather busy facade that's unlike the other tombs I've noticed
  • A Jordanian soldier keeps guard in chilly weather. The pistols they carried were very ornate!
  • Unlike the exteriors of the tombs and homes, the interiors were pretty spartan. But, the layers/striations on the rock face were fabulous!
  • Surreal to see entire buildings and courtyards carved into stone. Some of the Bedouin tribe handicrafts in the foreground.
  • A miniature lifestyle setting on display at one of the Bedouin tribe stalls
  • A view of the old stadium, seen through one of the cave homes in the neighbourhood
