Princess bride
One more try at capturing the crown from a drop. Since water is so transparent to light, the previous attempt had a lot of distraction, so I switched to milk instead (Vitamin.D milk no less :)
Given the amount of whiteness around, I had to darken the picture, bump up the contrast and sharpen it a bit. The result has a good bit of noise, but the subject looks a little better than in the original I think.

Timing is everything
First try at capturing the crown formed when a drop lands on the water surface. This is as close as I got - just as the crown collapsed.

Everyone loves a slinky
One more attempt at making Slinky interesting.

River rat
Spent all day rafting in American River. This is the only pic I managed to take before we started down the river.

Where there's smoke...
Finally! I have the smoke picture the way I wanted it. Almost set fire to the throw I was using as the backdrop...
The technique is rather simple in hindsight. Use a flash! For some reason I didn't hit upon this concept and was struggling with other sources of light. The catch is though, it has to be a detached flash. I placed it in the lower left corner of the pic facing slightly up and towards the camera. This position gave the best results among all I tried.
I set the camera on extended exposure and fired the flash twice to get these two columns of smoke.

Slinky is, as slinky does
I keep looking at this thing, and there should be a lot of interesting ways of photographing it - if only I can think of them.

Modern art
Failed to capture smoke the way I wanted to even after an hour of experimenting. After every little movement I had to wait for the turbulence to die down and the smoke band from the incense go straight again. I just couldn't get the light to go the way I wanted, and for one person to manage the light, the incense and the camera proved a bit much for me.
In the end I gave up and started playing around with colors during post processing. Not a bad blend I guess..

Holy smokes!
Capturing smoke was pretty darn tough. Next time I'll have to try with an incense instead of candle to get a thin smoke band that's more predictable.

Red hot
Mind drew a blank. So I ran to the kitchen to cook up some ideas :)
