Double-crested Cormorant
I should've used a faster shutter to remove the wing blur, but it flew by so quick I didn't have time to adjust.

Racing the dragon
More pics from the Dragon boat races held at Treasure Island with Oakland harbor in the background.

Majestic
The SanFrancisco civic center dome comes alive in the fog at night.

To smile or not to smile
Wanted to capture the drop reflections again. Was experimenting with how many smilies I can squeeze into the drop based on how far away the drop was from the background. This seemed optimal without cluttering up the drop too much. Wish I got this a bit more in focus.
Here's the levels corrected version based on all the comments.

Thought I'd try birding again. This seagull is about the only decent shot I managed before I ran out of time.
New Satellite discovered
Pasadena, CA (Sep.20,2006) Scientists at the California Institute of Technology have discovered a satellite orbiting the farthest object ever seen in the Solar System (2003 UB313). The existence of this moon will help astronomers resolve the question of whether 2003 UB313 is more massive than Pluto. A paper describing the discovery was submitted to the Astrophysical Journal Letters.
Who knew you can have so much fun with a wooden ball :P
My mind is working in overdrive these days...

Bounce back
Reminds me of the aquatic character from the movie 'Abyss'.
I had an acquarium full of water sitting on the table from last nights shot. Emptying and moving it seemed like a huge chore at midnight. So I added some colorful backdrop and captured my first reflection in a drop. Hope to catch up to Vandanas drop reflections someday.

An apple a day..
Getting closer to what I want. Thus far I thought the apple being soft was due to water distortion and I kept increasing the f-stops to get it all in focus. Turns out it's plain old motion blur. The moment I upped the shutter speed to 1/1250s it came nicely into focus.

Free falling
The background was the main drawback for this. I didn't iron the sheet and there were folds that were quite obvious and had to be blurred out. And I'm yet to get the apple in focus. But the bubble itself is coming nicely along I think - essentially all the lighting has to be on one side for the bubble to be clearly defined. Throw a light on the background itself to add some color.

It's a drab world
Clearly live flies look cleaner than
dead flies but are that much harder to get hold of..
