Half Dome hike : Yet another aborted attempt at conquering the monolith.

Hope Valley : Hope Valley is located in the California Sierra Nevada Mountains along HWY 88, about 35 minutes south of South Lake Tahoe.
A quick weekend ride there in search of fall colors (a relative rarity in California) yielded these pictures. One weekend too early, but wasn't terribly disappointing.

Grand Tetons National Park : Located in northwestern Wyoming near Southern entrance to Yellowstone National Park.
A spectacular landscape rich with majestic mountains and pristine glacial lakes and abundant wildlife.

Muir Woods : A remnant of ancient coast redwood forests that blanketed California, this national monument is about 12 miles north of Golden Gate bridge. Fog-drenched most of the time, it's shady and cool under the old-growth coast redwood trees, some of which are more than 600 years old!

Daffodil Hill : 2007.03.25 - A quick Sunday-trip to Daffodil Hill, CA.

Each spring a 4-acre wooded slope, near the Sierras foothill town of Volcano in California, erupts in a riot of yellow and gold as more than 300,000 daffodils burst into bloom. The display usually takes place between mid-March and mid-April.

Yosemite: Winter Wonderland : 2007.02.24 - A quick Sunday-trip to Yosemite National Park after a snowstorm during the week. The white coating all over, converterd the majestic landscape into a wonderland.

Monarchs of the Pacific : Pacific Grove is perhaps the best known winter home of Monarch butterflies that fly from as far as 2,000 miles away to escape harsh winter weather (no wonder the city calls itself "Butterfly Town, U.S.A.,").

All the Eucalyptus trees, where these butterflies nest, are cordoned off from afar and the only way you can see them is through the free binoculars provided at the sanctuaries. Every once in a while a stray butterfly loses its way down to where the people are, but flies away at the merest hint of wind (which is plenty given that it's a coastal area).

Pt.Reyes Light Station : About 80 miles from SanFrancisco, it's the western most point in Northern California. It was the usual weather there - a cloudy, foggy, and chilly day. But spent a good part of the Afternoon at the nearby desolate South Beach with Linus, who enjoyed his first beach visit thoroughly.

Filoli Gardens : Located in Woodside, CA, this garden is within a short drive from anywhere in the Bay Area. I was surprised at how large the garden was - about 16 acres I believe - and it needs way more time than the 1 hour I had before closing time.

Big Sur :

Land o'Lakes: Eastern Sierras : Primarily a trip to escape the summer heat in the Bay Area. It sure was nice to head up into the Mountains of the Sierra Nevada range where the snow was still plentiful. And ofcourse, mountain roads mean motorcycling and mile after mile of twisties..

Pacific Grove : Dubs itself as Butterfly town USA because every fall season, Monarch butterflies migrate here from places like Sierra Nevadas and Alaska. Quintessential California beach town without the massive crowd influx of Monterey.

Moonbow at Yosemite National Park : Accompanied a bunch of photographers all weekend at Yosemite. The goal was to capture the Moonbow (a rainbow given off by Moonlight) at the Yosemite falls. Regardless of how the pictures came out, it was worth the trip to just be there and enjoy the fabulous setting in Full moon. Meeting all the cool people I did was an added bonus.

Alamere Falls : One of the two spots I know in Northern California where a waterfall lands right onto the beach. Unlike the McFay Falls, Alamere waterfall is accessible, so it can be admired up, close & personally.

Alamere Falls in located in the Pt.Reyes National Seashore. To reach it, head North on Rt.1 -> Make a left on Olema-Bolenas road towards Bolenas -> Continue onto HorseShoe Hill road -> Make a right on Mesa road just before hitting the town -> Continue past the Bird Sanctuary after the road turns to dirt -> End of the road is the trail head. The trail runs along the coast initially (hence, 'coastal' trail) for about a mile, before running inland. From here the trail runs for about 3 miles, past Bass Lake, past the turnoff for Crystal Lake before the turnoff for an unmaintained trail down to Alamere Falls. From here, the falls is about .4 miles, but a fairly steep hike requiring great care during the final descent. Except for this last .4 miles the trail is a very moderate hike, and the total roundtrip of 8.4 miles can be covered in about 4 and a half hours including a 45-minute stop at the waterfall itself.

Hyderabad :

Dumbarton Pier : Minutes from my home - amazed that I didn't know about it till now. The Pier has a wildlife refuge and more than 16 miles of walking/hiking trails along the bay.

Lake Mendocino : Had to go to traffic court in a small town called Ukiah, some 180 miles from home, during a weekday. Since the morning was shot anyway I figured I might as well get up a little early and tour the place a bit. So ended up going to Lake Mendocino around sunrise. The whole setting was unreal with the intense fog to boot. Try viewing these pictures in the Original size to enjoy them the fullest.

Big Sur : About 40 minutes south of Monterey, this state park has awesome beaches and plenty of hiking spots along Rt.1.
