Susan, Vandana - I agree with you that this looks more analytical than aesthetic. I got the usual full butterfly spread shot from the back too, but I chose this for POTD because it looks a bit different from usual.
I agree with Susan on the scientific shot bit ! an anatomically correct, sharp eyed macro than a pretty colorful butterfly sitting on a flower :) depends on what you want to do I guess !interesting nonetheless.
Aren't these called Painted Ladies? Scruffy little guys and they are tough to get holding still or with their wings open. Many of the ones around here have torn and frayed wings, making them look even scruffier.
